Community-Based Federal Work Study program at your agency

To: Current, past and prospective Community Work-Study partners

From: Loyola University Chicago’s Center for Experiential Learning’s Student Employment Program

Subject: 2011-2012 Community-Based Federal Work-Study Program Enrollment

Dear Community Organizations,

Thank you for your interest in our Community-Based Federal Work-Study program, a Student Employment initiative from the Center for Experiential Learning. The purpose of this email is to invite you to apply for participation in our 2011-2012 Community-Based Federal Work-Study Program. The enrollment process has changed significantly from years prior so please review this email and the attachments carefully.
Enrollment Period:
Early enrollment in the program, regardless of your hiring time line, is necessary in order for us to commit an adequate amount of reimbursement funds to this program. Much like some of your organizations, we have experienced a loss of some Federal funding. This reality is challenging us to closely manage work-study funds, requiring an earlier enrollment to provide a better sense of needed funds.
Program changes:
Please note that there have been some significant changes in the program. It is critical that all organizations review the attached Expectations document but I have included a short list of the more significant program changes:
  • Community Work-Study partners must be legally incorporated as a not-for-profit entity (eg. 501C3, hospitals, schools, etc.)
  • Partners enrolled in the program will be allowed to hire for the Fall as early as July 1, 2011, if enrolled in the program
  • Partners will be asked to select a single contact person between your organization and our program in order to simplify assessment, training and accounting processes
  • Starting in June of 2011, new and returning partners will be expected to participate in a program training
  • Starting in September of 2011, all partners will be expected to participate in our Learning Assessment process
Application for enrollment does NOT guarantee program participation. Partners who offer opportunities consistent with Loyola and the CEL's mission will receive an approved agreement and become eligible for wage reimbursement--Notification of program enrollment will be emailed on June 3, 2011.
A completed FWS Contract and at least one position description must either be faxed (773-508-7088) or emailed to me (as a Word or PDF document) by Monday, May 16, 2011. I have created a web page that contains all of the forms. If you have questions about this enrollment process, please contact me.
Yours in service,
-Kathryn
