Fair Trade Internship

FAIR TRADE INTERNSHIP

The Greenheart Shop is Chicago’s only non profit eco-friendly fair trade store. The store offers unique products that are respectful of the earth and beneficial to the people who make them. Greenheart Shop fair trade products allow our neighbors in developing countries to earn a living wage and give our customers the chance to buy high quality products from around the world. In addition to fair trade, the Greenheart Shop also supports local social enterprises that use natural and earth-friendly resources to make their goods. Greenheart promotes community participation through hosting Community Shopping Nights where we partner with other non-profit organizations who use the Greenheart Shop space for fundraising events and we donate 10% of sales to their organization.

Building direct relationships with Artisan Cooperatives
Since its inception, Greenheart has purchased items from fair trade wholesalers who work directly with artisan groups from over seventy countries. Last fall, Greenheart began building direct relationships with artisan groups with the goal of creating a fair trade collection of tabletop items that we will both retail and wholesale. We are looking for an intern to help with this new venture.

Internship Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Coordinating marketing and social media networking efforts: Greenheart Blog, Facebook, Twitter, other.
  • Research and identify different sales channels for the wholesale line including retail outlets, industry trade shows, recruiting and training sales representatives.
  • Assist in developing our Customer Relationship Management strategy.
  • Participate in development of a marketing strategy. Research and identify advertising and public relationship opportunities.
  • Assist in identifying artisan cooperatives.
  • Ideal candidate is a graduate student who is committed to the principles of fair trade and interested in social enterprise.

Hours: A minimum of 15-20 hours per week; hours are flexible and intern of working from home.
