ESL Teacher/Activities Leader

ESL TEACHER/ACTIVITIES LEADER*

For Short-term Group Homestay Program
Type of Position: Temporary, Summer (4 weeks)
Location: Wilmette, IL (Chicago area, northern suburbs)

CCI is currently seeking candidates to teach ESL and to be an Activities Leader in Wilmette, IL from June 28 – July 26. The Group Homestay Program is for 16 high school Spanish students who are coming to the United States to improve their English and to get to know American culture. 


The main responsibility for ESL is to develop and teach a 12-hour per week curriculum (3-1/2 weeks) that encourages practical speaking and listening skills in addition to grammar and vocabulary instruction. Classes will also help prepare students for their activities/excursions outside of the classroom.

The main responsibility for the Activities Leader role is to participate in and help to coordinate pre-planned ½ day and full-day excursions. Excursions include Chicago Boat Tour, Hancock Observatory, Chicago Museums, Chocolate-making tour, “Day in the Country,” bowling, going to the beach and more. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm.

The ideal candidate is dynamic, organized, creative and enjoys working with teenagers.
• 3+ years teaching ESL
• 25 or older to drive rental Mini-van
• International experience preferred
• State certified teacher with experience teaching ESL or EFL and/or a teacher with a TEFL, TESL, TESOL, or CELTA certificate

*Note: the teacher/activity leader will be hired by and report to a CCI Local Coordinator.


Compensation: $2,000 – $2,500 depending on level of involvement
